Two dozen students last week attended the first meeting of New Rochelle High School’s new Business and Marketing Honor Society. Affiliated with the Business Teachers Association of New York State, the chapter recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in their business courses and provides opportunities for members to share interests and develop skills.
The honor society will help prepare students for successful careers in business by providing opportunities to apply classroom concepts to real-world settings, according to Gustavo Barbosa, chairman of Social Studies and Business at New Rochelle High School. One main goal for this year is for members to help fellow students prepare for a job fair at the school next March. To do so, they are conducting after-school workshops for those interested in landing summer employment.
To be eligible to join the Business and Marketing Honor Society, students must be in at least 10th grade, have completed at least two business courses, earned an average of at least 88 in those courses and have a minimum overall school average of 80.
